An Artist Has An Oversized, Overstuffed Gallery Of Paintings For Sale At Reasonable Prices; Nobody Buys Them Yet He Paints More. Pathos Or Pathetic?
"Sex is like bread, if you butter the corners, you can get away with not buttering the middle." -- tqb circa 2002 I hate words that represent things that we don't have firmly conceptually grasped. In particular, creativity and art are big offenders. I mean, I get it, we gotta have the word art, but other than when it's attached to Garfunkel, I've got no use for it... I'd like to do something more creative for my career. What the fuck does that mean? What does it buy me? Where does it take me? What license do I own to even make a statement like that? Especially, in deference to neighbors, peers, thinkers, and others who are already trekking down creative paths.

"ART," as a word, makes a good fulcrum - useful for maneuvering concepts from a disadvantaged position? It's a good term for something with a lot of intent behind it, and/or with a stronger emphasis on form than function, and/or something (maybe including a memory) that comes about as a result of "play" or without conscious intent which is to say with the strongest intent of all - like, I use "fewmets" which means "dragon poop" to refer to music or other "art objects" that have been produced as a result of musicians (or other "artists") standing around with instruments in their hands and not much else to do or think about - this stuff has a very broad frame around it, but still an identifiable one if you squint a little (like Magiceye?) - so "art" and "shit" can have a very close relation, the main distinction maybe involves relative ease of promotion and/or capitalization. |
